Few days ago ‘Elementary’ executive producer Rob Doherty revealed to Entertainment Weekly that “the return of a very familiar face is in the works”. In his own words, producers of the show are “working on bringing back a beloved member of the Elementary family. The odds are quite good.”
One of the faces which fans of the show should remember is Jamie Moriarty/Irene Adler played by Natalie in season 1 and 2 (last time we’ve seen her on the screen in 12th episode). Moriarty character has not been seen in last two seasons due to Dormer’s busy work schedule but now, after Margaery’s tragic death and Doherty’s spoiler words, speculations about her return to the show blow again.

Last November Doherty spoke about possible return of Moriarty to the show, but at that time Natalie was still working on ‘In Darkness’ which she’ll start shoot next month. “I reached out to Natalie recently because I did have some ideas and was hoping we’d be able to see her towards the end of the Season 4. But she is acting in a movie (‘In Darkness’) that she co-wrote” – he told back then TV Line. “She is a friend of the show, for sure, and we love having her around. So at the moment, the odds are slim, but the door is not shut.”
Doherty spoke again about possible return of Natalie’s character in November 2015 during New York Comic Con ‘Elementary’ Panel: “Natalie has proven to be as elusive as Moriarty. Actually, we had the opportunity to talk a few weeks ago, to discuss a few possible scenarios for a return … but it presents obviously some logistical problems for us. But we’ll stay in touch and see what we can cook up.”
Jonny Lee Miller, who plays Sherlock on the series, added: “We shoot this show all year anyway, so when she stops working, we’ll still be working”.
Is that mean that we will see Natalie in ‘Elementary’ again? We’ll see. Season 5 will premiere on CBS on October 2, 2016.
