The Guardian has posted the TV ratings for the Friday night finale of Season 3 of The Tudors. Interestingly the finale drew almost a million fewer viewers than the Season 2 finale!

The third series of The Tudors came to an end with 1.4 million viewers — nearly a million fewer than watched the climax to the second season — on Friday, 25 September. It was down on the 2.2 million and 10% share who saw the finale of the second series in October 2008.

So if you did watch season 3, what did you think and how do you think the finale of Season 3 compared to that of Season 2? For me the Season 2 finale is the best episode of The Tudors to date, it breaks my heart every time!

Also, thank you to everyone who commented on the layout :) I’m really glad you guys like it!

Here in Italy, the third season will start nexr Saturday.
I watch some episodes of the new season and.. Well, I miss so, so much Natalie!
In anycase, The Tudors became more dark, with Henry more, more dangerous and mad. But I’ll can say something more when I see all the episodes!

hey
im come from germany and i dont know when the 3. season here starts.
but i know, that i will miss anne so much in the tudors…

well in the US the tudors is actually old, season 3 wise, but i believe that season 3 ended too quickly. joss stone really wasn’t shown alot and the reasons of henry riding of her was to fast, also katherine howard just pop up not only just after two episodes with anne. also i think season 2 was much MORE dramatic beacause natalie’s character anne and the four men and how they died was perfectly perform well. natalie and the other actors actually made it seem real and bloodier than season 3, that took place of cromwell’s death. also micheal hirst said season 3 would be better, but not really, to me at least. natalie and jonathan really made the tudors the “S” word, it was that good and season 3 was dense cause of the “rebel” war. that was stupid.

For me, the second half of season 2 was great. But, in general, I liked season 3 more. If I had to rank them: Second half of S2, S3, first half of S2, then season 1… if that makes sense! The S2 finale is one of my favorite episodes… and so sad! Natalie did a great job! I think people cared more about Anne than Cromwell, who wasn’t as interesting of a character to me.

Lynn

I agree! I like Season 2 better than Season 3 and Season 1.

Lauren

I loved season three, they didnt stray from their actual topic, the tudors unlike some shows that loose their touch after two seasons and get boring. But i felt like none of the wives had the spice anne had, it was more male domination in the third season than the second and first it was more female with katherine and anne. overall since i am a big anne fan season two finale i was so sad but season three was good too. wow that was a long review, haha!

well okay i do have to agree with some of you on season 3,it just seem darker, not like season 2 which had the church of england and a bloody end for anne.(and female dominance) but in season 3 yes it was the birth of prince edward, jane’s death, cromwell with more to gain and to lose,a war with the rebels, and one new wife.(basically like lauren said on topic/male power.GO GUYS!!) i just wanted to see more in depth of s3 even though i know there really wasn’t alot going on in those years, just that season 2 seem to have more of what really did happen with henry’s 2 wife and that 3 year period, to me. season 1 was an intro, it was just henry as a young man and nothing special even though it had its moments, but i think season 3 ended to early, period.beat that lauren haha i write more!!JK

Anne-Laure

No episode on earth can beat S2 finale!!! ^^
Natalie was splendid and I think people wanted to know how she would end the AB story… Cromwell wasn’t such a popular character IMO…

Anne-Laure

PS: Don’t get me wrong: I loved James Frain’s performance, he was almost as good as Natalie in his ending scene but Anne Boleyn has a tragic aura attached to her, more than any of the Tudors’ character… I guess that’s why it draw more audience…
But I found S3 very disappointing in general, the departure of Anne left a giant hole that’s true but above all you really felt that 2 more episodes were missing so that the whole wouldn’t feel so rushed…

Gaby

Here in Finland they haven´t yet showed the third season, but I´ve been able to see some clips, and I must say I miss the first two seasons. I agree, that Jonathan and Natalie pretty much made the Tudors, and now it feels very different. By the way, Laura, thank you for this brilliant and beautiful website! Keep up the good work!

Natalie

im from the usa, so season 3 has come and gone. Season 3 felt rushed and there are only 8 or 9 episodes. NOT 10/12 episodes like the last two seasons. Natalie’s departure definetly left a great big void in season 3. SEASON 4 better be climatic and have a great crescendo to end the series!!!!!!!!!!!!

yeah nat is right guys and i believe it was only 8 episodes for s3 and 10 for the last two seasons, but then again like natalie also said season 4 better bring it all, or nothing will be the same. so they need to make henry VIII, the MAN back then, into today’s GREATEST KING!

Krissy

What can I say, Season 3 was a let down compared to Seasons 1 and 2. Season 2 was by far my favorite. There was a lot more of Natalie and Anne had the power! Best season so far. Season 3 did have its shining moments. :)

Because Henry’s first two marriages, I think, were the most exciting. “Exciting” is a poor word perhaps but certainly “tumultuous”! Kennedy and Dormer did such a marvelous job portraying the two doomed queens, that their performances were so unforgettable that I mourned the loss of two queens even more.

Besides, ending a season with a beheading? How can you top that anyway? lol

Ava

I really didn’t like season 3 at all. I’m from the US, and season 3 has already been played/ended here already. For me, i really loved how in Season 1 you could see the chemistry between Henry and Anne, it’s was brilliant. I also really loved Season 2. I started off watching season 2 on showtime even before seeing season 1 and in my opinion, i didn’t even need to buy the DVD to see season 1 to be captured my Natalie’s performance.

I really found season 3 to be boring. Not only is Jane Seymour’s character as boring as the real life Jane, but i just simply don’t like her. I also didn’t like how Katherine was found in a brothel, it’s so un true! She wasn’t found like that at all. As we all know, Katherine is Anne Boleyn’s cousin! For me in my opinion, they should have found someone with a little more edge and fire to play Katherine, Kinda like they did with Anne’s character by choosing Natalie.

Needless to say; i really miss Natalie’s talent :(

Oh, and i knew that the ratings this season would be down! In my opinion, Natalie was what THE TUDORS was all about :)

Viva la Natalie!

Sarah

ava, I agree with EVERYTHING you say!

I liked seasons 1 to 3 full stop but I will have to admit that season 2 was by far the best.I think that Johnathan Ryhs Meyers has played the part of King Henry VIII well despite looking nothing like the real Henry Tudor.I think also that Natalie Dormer played a brilliant, exciting, interesting and intrigueing role.Natalie like Maria who played the Kings first wife Catherine of Aragon had the most lengthening hardest parts to play apart from Johnathan himself. When I first watched the series the only two actors I new and recognized was the fellow who plays the king of course and the felow who pope paul the III.I did not recognize anyone else.It was only after I had seen the fellow who played Thomas Cromwell in something.I suppose now after Natalie playing a part like this this will be set to make her known.aswell as some of the other cast.I think Natalie tried to play Anne Boleyn as best she could.I could see the determination in her eyes and her character itself.Like Jonathan he has determination too to play King Henry VIII to the full.It is this that determines what a good actor/actress is and what it isn’t.I did enjoy season 3.I wondered who was going to be playing Catherine Howard at the time before it was aired.once I had seen I think she seems alright for the part but I would not go as far to say she is the best.It is not the same as the oomph Natalie gave in playing Anne Boleyn.Well we still have to wait until season 4 is aired to get a proper glimpse and understanding of how Tamzin really plays Catherine Howard.I do not want to speculate any further to soon.I am going to wait till I see season 4 and come back with what I really think of her performance.I do not think that where Catherine Howard was staying was supposed to be a brothel it may have given that impression but it was supposed to Lambeth Palace in London where Catherine was staying under the supervision of her step grandmother the Dowager Duchess of Norfolk and her uncle Thomas Howard the Duke of Norfolk,Plus various other people that she was staying with.If it were supposed to be a brothel then that is unrealistic.someone like her in real life would not have stepped somewhere like that, and neither would have the Dowager Duchess.I think it was down to lack of knowledge on the writer of scripts part, where he did not do his research or it was just made up and added to make the series more interesting and appealing to the viewers.I personally think it is a little of both.If I feel it was based on historical accuracy I doubt the series would have got as many views as it did and as it has,by creating something to add to it especially if intersting would appeal to the viewers more. Not only that the whole series probably would have ended by now.Overall I thoughroughly have enjoyed what I have seen so far. :-)

I only just finished the three seasons of “The Tudors” and whilst I still enjoyed the third season it was really nothing without Natalie in it. Jane Seymour and Anne of Cleves were just so boring. Anne Boleyn was full of life and Natalie’s performance encouraged you to share in both her joy and despair. I have to agree that the season 2 finale was the best episode of the show and one of the best episodes of tv ever. I actually cried which is really unusual for me when watching tv or film. It also inspired me to read more about Anne Boleyn who is truly tragic figure to rival another of my favourite historical figures, Mary Queen of Scots.
