According to dvdtimes.co.uk fans in the UK wont have to wait very long for the second season of The Tudors to hit stores (DVD, Blue-Ray). Apparently it will be released on 13th October, and will have a few extra features.

(Note that the artwork & features for the normal DVD may differ). I have a few things to say about this – firstly the picture of Natalie use is awful and badly photo shopped. Secondly why isn’t her name featured on the front DVD cover? I understand Peter O’Toole is a big seller but for us fans she owned season 2. Thirdly, why no special features dedicated to Anne? Again this was her season grrrr.

Natalie

I understand your frustration Laura, but I don’t think Natalie is a household name yet, so that’s probably why her name wasn’t on the cover. But, I agree with you about the picture, they could have done a better job than that. Do you know when the second season dvd will be released in the US?

Agnese

Natalie is not a big star. Jonathan Rhys Meyers won Golden Globe. Peter O’Toole is living legend. Nat is just actress, she didn’t won any special price, she’s not a big movie star so you shouldn’t frustrated that they didn’t featured her name on the cover.

Laura

Yes I see what your both saying, but I think for her performance this season she at least deserves her name on the cover.

Anyway, its not a big deal, I’d just like to see her get more recognition.

Miss Berryman

I’m not a big fan of the cover too…
I’d love some bonus with Natalie too.
And I’m so pissed, no french subtitles like always. I’ll have to wait for a release in my country.

Charlotte

I’m pretty annoyed that both Natalie and Jeremy Northam didn’t get their names on the cover. O’Toole may be a big name but he had maybe 5 minutes or so of screentime the entire season. James Frain also deserves more recognition; his picture isn’t even on there.

Sarika

Yeah, they should at least put her name on the cover… At least her picture is there. I just don’t get the comparisons to Rome. Of course I’m biased and love Rome :D

mark

I’m sure the cover’s design was done for commercial reasons. Natalie’s fans and others realize she was the shining star of The Tudors in the 2nd season. Those buying the dvd and seeing the series will be equally impressed by her performance.

The cover I can understand and live with. The lack of features I can’t. Just like on the S1 DVD, no voice-over commentary, no deleted scenes, and no “Making of . .”. 3 “featurettes” only. This is cheap and embarrassing. Why in the world not have Natalie do voice-over commentary on ep 10, the Anne Execution ep? Maybe along with Hirst. Or have she and JRM vo another of the pivotal S2 eps. The lack of features is appalling, IMO.

Jessica R

I agree that though O’Toole is renowned and legendary, he was hardly in the season. He just disappears after a few episodes and like Laura said, it was Natalie’s season. Ugh at the cover pic, not just with Natalie but everyone, so many possibilities and they go with that nonsense. I could have done a better job with Paint on Windows. I hope the US release is better and has more features. For Blu-Ray that is so dissapointing though. Thanks for the info Laura.

Ana

What the hell is this cover?? \O/
They have put her on vertical from a pic where she is laying with Jonathan, and it turned off SO poorly….
Well, I’ll have to wait a looong time for that! season 1 it’s going to be release in the other month!

Mary

And the dvd version?

What’s up with the cover? And yes, I think Natalie deserves some recognition. She played Anne Boleyn, HELLO! And don’t get me started on that particular picture of Natalie. BOO.

Charlene

I NOT VERY FOND OF THE COVER MYSELF BUT I’VE LEARNED THE US RELEASE WILL DEC.30TH AND I’M HOPING IT WILL HAVE SPECIAL FEATURES WITH NATALIE SINCE IT IS A LONG WAYS AWAY TIME WILL TELL

What in the world… heck, _I_ could’ve done a better photoshop job there! Unfortunately, DVD covers are all too often disappointing, particularly in comparison with other promo footage and posters. Sigh.

About her name not being featured on the cover, I agree with Laura it should’ve been there. Peter O’Toole is a legendary actor, so his involvement however small was bound to be recognized, and Jonathan Rhys Meyers is the star of the series. However, there would’ve been room for a third name there (esp. had someone actually spent more than five minutes working on the cover), and if Jonathan was Star no. 1, Natalie was surely Star no. 2.
