The first image has been released of Natalie Dormer and David Oakes in character ahead of Venus in Fur, which runs at the Theatre Royal Haymarket later this year.

Dormer and Oakes will star in this new production directed by Patrick Marber, designed by Rob Howell with lighting by Hugh Vanstone.

The play is about actress Vanda Jordan who appears unannounced or an audition with the director Thomas Novachek, determined to be cast in the leading role of his latest production. Scroll down to see the image of Dormer and Oakes.

Venus in Fur is described as ‘an intoxicating dark comedy of desire, fantasy and the innate love of fur’, and originally had its premiere off-Broadway at the Classic Stage Company in 2010 before transferring to Broadway in 2011. Director Roman Polanski adapted the play into a film in 2012. The production runs in London from 6th October.

Game Of Thrones star Natalie Dormer will return to London theatre to play an actress who turns up unannounced for an audition in black comedy Venus In Fur.

The actress will appear alongside Victoria’s David Oakes in the David Ives play, which will be directed by Patrick Marber, at the Theatre Royal Haymarket.

Based on Leopold von Sacher-Masoch’s 1870 novel, which inspired the term masochism, the play premiered off-Broadway in New York in 2010 before transferring to Broadway.

The new version will reunite Dormer with Marber after she played the title role in his play After Miss Julie at the Young Vic in 2012.

Natalie, 35, will play actress Vanda Jordan, who appears unannounced to audition for director Thomas Novachek, played by Oakes.

The production is set over one evening in downtown Manhattan, when the meeting between actress and director becomes a seductive dance.

Venus In Fur is at Theatre Royal Haymarket from October 6 to December 9

When Mass Effect: Andromeda sets off on its mission to explore our nearest galactic neighbour in March, it’ll be taking a touch of Westerosi flavour with it as Game of Thrones’ Natalie Dormer joins the cast.

The sci-fi action RPG – developer BioWare’s first new entry in the series in five years – sees players controlling one of the two Ryder twins as they search for humanity’s new home. The game will feature Dormer as Dr Lexi T’Perro, an Asari physician and psychiatrist on board the Tempest, the game’s main spaceship, who will serve as a key ally for players as they venture around the Andromeda galaxy.

WIRED spoke with Dormer to discuss her shift into games, Lexi as a character, and how acting in the medium affects a performer.
